The notorious RBG. There won’t be another like her.

In 1993, Ruth Bader Ginsburg (1933–2020) became the second woman ever to serve on the United States Supreme Court. During her time on the bench, she served as a leading voice for gender equality, women’s interests, and civil rights and liberties. Despite her own discomfort, self-doubt, and misgivings, Ginsburg graduated at the top of her class while working to keep her family together.

Here are 8 things you may have not known about RBG:

01 / Before RBG, state-funded schools didn’t have to admit women.

02 / Women couldn’t sign a mortgage or have a bank account without a male co-signer.

03/ Ginsburg helped women make strides towards equal pay.

04 / Her prescience on the court preserved a women’s right to choose.

05 / She pushed to have protections for pregnant women in the workplace.

06 / Ginsburg argued that women should serve on juries.

07 / She was a key vote in granting same-sex marriages.

08 / Ginsburg served as an example of what it is to be a confident, hardworking female leader.

Ginsburg left her mark on the legal world, but she left an even more lasting impact for women on an individual level. Her voice will be missed, but her legacy lives on.
